Six popular places you can visit in San Carlos Sonora

San Carlos Sonora counts with big places to discover from which you could take the best photographs,

1. Nacapule Canyon

To get here, you should travel a dirt road which goes into the depths of desert and the scenery is very different from other places in Mexico. 

 

A vast canyon will welcome you to this park of adventures where first you could go for a hike, accompanied by the guides information, you can explore the water spring * and to finish there are 5 zip lines to add a little more adrenaline. 

It’s a completely different experience with activities of zip lining and resting areas at the entrance with grills and palapas. It’s an ideal place to go with family and friends. 

2. Tetakawi Hill

For the Yaquis this hill is “takale” which means split hill, for the shape of it’s tip, which is open like an enormous snake’s tongue. 

It’s name is one of the few popular Yaqui words: te-ta-ka-wi, which means, goats udders. 

It’s a place out of the ordinary for it’s position, views and nature. You can identify it from any point and from a distance you can identify this iconic place.

For it’s visitors it means “we’ve arrived”.

3. Soldier Estuary, protected natural area

This is a protected area that shelters a lagoon and a swamp where different birds and animals live, which are endemic to this ecosystem, and even some migratory species. 

In the path you can hike, bike and practice kayak, to explore it’s guided trips. 

Recommended for families and friends who are curious for marine life. Furthermore, you can do kayak activities, bike and hike.

It’s located just at the exit of the dolphinarium. To get here you can walk five hundred meters from the beach and get to the entrance of the ocean to a lagoon-like area. The water currents are not that strong, and you can swim in them.

4. San Pedro Nolasco Island

San Pedro Nolasco Island is home to hundreds of sea lions.

The lighthouse is one of the most visited places, but you cannot miss the place known as “La Lobera”, which is a few hundred meters northeast.

The wall of “punto norte” is a mandatory visit for the most experienced divers.

It’s important to make a stop at one of the local diving centers, to obtain the most updated information of the island trips.

This is a natural space considered a valuable sanctuary for the sea lions that originate from California.

5. San Carlos Scenery lookout

This construction is iconic to this place because it offers a panoramic view of the Sea of Cortes, from where you can appreciate stunning sunsets and the majestic of Tetakawi hill.

And if it is in season and you are in luck, you can even see dolphins and whales that transit through it.

Family, friends and many people visit in particular on the weekends, when they enjoy ice-cream, purchase artcrafts and take pictures. 

The ocean cliffs and mountains are a delight of the oceans panoramic view, that you can admire at any time of day.

6. La Manga: food and drinks in San Carlos

We enter San Carlos, and we go directly to La Manga in search of seafood, to get to this fishing community we have to cross all of San Carlos, and there, where the big houses end and pavement turns into dirt road, that is where you will find it. 

It is a small coastal ranch, where kids play soccer in the middle of the road even after mid-day.

Fisherman of all ages float in their boats with no motor.

The restaurants are open houses that one after the other promise the freshest seafood and coldest beer. 

Do not miss getting to the end of the road to get to Dona Rosita Restaurant, the most established of them all over, over a rocky cliff that oversees the ocean and certainly oversees Tetakawi.
